Liposonic Skin Tightening & Fat Reduction
How does Liposonic work?
Liposonic uses special technology called High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) to cause the death of fat cells safely and effectively. Focusing the ultrasound energy of Liposonic at 1-2 cm below the surface of the skin avoids any burns or trauma to the skin and makes the treatment more comfortable. The fat cells are disrupted by the HIFU, resulting in an average 4-5 cm (1.5-2 inches) reduction in waist size for a one-hour treatment procedure.
Liposonic vs CoolSculpting
Both Liposonic and CoolSculpt permanently destroy the fat cells, resulting in a reduction in the size of the area treated. Both are procedures performed in the office, as an outpatient and take about an hour. Both Liposonic and CoolSculpt result in some soreness swelling and bruising in the treatment area. Both take at least 3 months to see results and improvement can continue out to 6 months after the procedure. That is where the similarities end.
- Liposonic has no problems with fat hypertrophy (extra fat returning to treatment area) – CoolSculpt can develop fat hypertrophy.
- Liposonic has little or no pain afterward. CoolSculpt can have severe pain develop in the treatment zone up to 10% of the time. This can last for 6 months or more and be difficult to treat.
- Liposonic can also tighten the skin. CoolSculpt does not tighten the skin.
What type of results can I expect?
Liposonic permanently disrupts the fat cells in the treatment area. One treatment is recommended in the area. A treatment takes about an hour. The current studies showed an average decrease in waist size of 4.6 cm or 1.8 inches after 3 months. This is essentially one pant size.
What Can Liposonic Do For You?
If you’re close to your ideal shape, but need a little help getting there, Liposonic may be for you. Liposonic treatments use high-intensity focused ultrasound to non-invasively get rid of targeted fat around your waistline (abdomen and love handles) without surgery. The average waistline reduction after just a single one-hour treatment is about 1 inch (2.5 cm) – which typically means one dress or pant size.
What to Expect During Treatment?
Here’s what your Liposonic Skin Tightening journey will look like:
1. Immediate Post-Treatment Sensations
- Muscle Fatigue or Soreness:
You may feel muscle soreness similar to what you would experience after an intense workout. This is completely normal and indicates that the muscles have been effectively stimulated. - Mild Redness or Warmth:
The treated area may feel slightly warm or appear mildly red immediately after the session. This usually resolves within an hour.
No Downtime:
Treatments are non-invasive, and there is no downtime. You can resume your daily activities, including work or exercise, immediately after the session.
2. The Days Following Treatment
- Continued Muscle Soreness:
The treated area might feel slightly sore for 1–2 days, much like post-workout fatigue. This is temporary and will subside on its own.
Increased Muscle Awareness:
Some clients report a sensation of tightness or firmness in the treated muscles, reflecting their activation and stimulation.
3. Gradual Results Over Time
- Muscle Tone and Strength:
While some clients notice subtle improvements right away, the full effects of treatments typically become visible over the course of 2–4 weeks as the muscles grow stronger and more defined.
Fat Reduction:
Treatments also trigger the breakdown of fat cells, which are gradually metabolized and eliminated by the body. Fat reduction becomes more noticeable after multiple sessions.
4. Minimal Side Effects
Treatments are generally well-tolerated, but here are a few mild and temporary effects:
- Soreness or tightness in the muscles.
- Slight redness or tenderness in the treatment area.
- Rarely, mild swelling (this resolves quickly).

Frequently Asked Questions About Liposonic Skin Tightening
1. What is Liposonic Skin Tightening?
Answer: Liposonic Skin Tightening is a non-invasive procedure that uses high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) to target deep layers of the skin. The ultrasound energy penetrates the skin, stimulating collagen production, tightening the skin, and improving overall skin tone. It’s often used for areas with loose or sagging skin, such as the face, neck, abdomen, and thighs.
2. How does Liposonic Skin Tightening work?
Answer: Liposonic works by using focused ultrasound energy to heat the deeper layers of the skin, which stimulates collagen production and promotes skin tightening. The ultrasound energy is delivered to specific depths in the skin, allowing it to target both superficial and deeper layers. This leads to an immediate lifting effect and gradual skin tightening over the following weeks as collagen fibers regenerate.
3. Is Liposonic Skin Tightening painful?
Answer: Most clients find Liposonic to be tolerable. You may feel a warming or tingling sensation during the treatment as the ultrasound energy is delivered to the skin. Some areas may be slightly more sensitive than others, but the discomfort is typically mild and temporary. A numbing cream can be applied prior to the treatment to minimize any discomfort.
4. How long does a Liposonic treatment take?
Answer: The duration of a Liposonic treatment depends on the area being treated. For example, a treatment for the face or neck typically takes around 30 to 60 minutes, while body treatments (such as the abdomen or thighs) can take up to 1 to 1.5 hours. The procedure is relatively quick, and clients can usually resume normal activities right after.
5. How many Liposonic treatments do I need?
Answer: The number of treatments required depends on the individual’s skin condition and the area being treated. Most clients achieve noticeable results after 1 to 3 sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. For some clients, a series of treatments may be recommended to achieve optimal skin tightening and contouring results, particularly for more significant laxity.
6. What areas of the body can Liposonic Skin Tightening treat?
Answer: Liposonic can treat a variety of areas on the body, including:
-
- Face: Lifting and tightening sagging skin, particularly around the jawline, chin, and cheeks.
- Neck and Décolletage: Tightening loose skin and reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
- Abdomen: Skin tightening after weight loss or for post-pregnancy recovery.
- Thighs and Arms: Improving the appearance of loose or sagging skin.
- Knees and Buttocks: Contouring and tightening skin in these areas as well.
7. When will I see results from Liposonic Skin Tightening?
Answer: While some clients notice an immediate lifting effect after the first session, full results from Liposonic typically develop over 2 to 3 months as collagen production increases and skin tightens. You may continue to see improvements over time, as collagen remodeling continues for several months following the treatment.
8. How long do the results of Liposonic Skin Tightening last?
Answer: The results of Liposonic Skin Tightening can last up to 1 to 2 years, depending on factors such as your skin type, age, and lifestyle. To maintain the effects, some clients opt for occasional maintenance treatments. A healthy lifestyle, including staying hydrated and using sunscreen, can help extend the longevity of the results.
9. Are there any side effects or risks with Liposonic Skin Tightening?
Answer: Liposonic is considered safe and non-invasive, with minimal side effects. Some clients may experience mild redness, swelling, or slight bruising in the treated area, but these side effects typically resolve within a few hours to a few days. There’s no downtime required, and most people can resume their normal activities immediately after the treatment.
10. Who is a good candidate for Liposonic Skin Tightening?
Answer: Liposonic is ideal for people with mild to moderate skin laxity or sagging who are looking for non-invasive skin tightening. It’s suitable for both men and women and can be used on various skin types. Clients who are not candidates for Liposonic include those who have active skin infections, pregnancy, or metal implants in the treatment area. Your med spa provider will evaluate whether you’re a good candidate during a consultation.
